- Some Trivia Details about Hermione Granger
One question that many Hermione Granger fans have is about her wand. In the books, we are there while Harry Potter buys his wand, but we do not meet Hermione Granger until Hermione is on her way to Hogwarts and therefore already has her wand.
Hermione’s wand, like Harry’s and Ron’s was bought at Ollivander’s Wand Shop. Ollivander is widely regarded in the wizarding world to make the best wands available. Ollivander used only three types of cores in the wands that he makes. These three cores are Dragon Heartstring, Phoenix Feather and Unicorn Hair.
Hermione Granger’s Wand has a core that is made of Dragon Heartstring.
An interesting side note is that Harry, Ron and Hermione’s wands contain the three different types of cores. Harry’s wand contains the core of Phoenix Feather. Ron’s contains a core of Unicorn Hair. And, as just mentioned, Hermione’s contains the core of Dragon Heartstring.
The wood of Hermione’s wand was chosen by J.K. Rowling based on Hermione’s birthday and the Celtic calendar, which has a different type of tree or wood for each month. Hermione’s birthday is September 19, which falls during the moon of Muin. Muin is vine wood.
So, the wood Hermione Granger’s wand is made of is vine wood.
As is frequently stated in the Harry Potter series, people do not choose their wands, but rather their wands choose them. Everyone who has either read the Harry Potter books or seen the Harry Potter movies will remember the very funny scene in which Harry Potter tries out several wands in Ollivander’s shop with disastrous effects before finding “his” wand. It is therefore not too much of a stretch of thought to understand that their must be something about the wand that makes it a good fit for its owner.
With Harry, his wand had a core of Phoenix Feather. This is a fitting core for him since he should have died as a baby and did not. So much like the legendary phoenix, he rose from the ashes very much alive.
Hermione’s wand has a core of Dragon Heartstring. Perhaps this is because of her steadfast and brave heart. Hermione Granger takes on some of the toughest and most lost causes (such as S.P.E.W.) and yet never lets it phase her.
The wood is also fitting for this as vines tend to wrap themselves up in something and never let go, which is what Hermione does with her unwavering loyalty.
